3d Printing

Welcome to the 3D Printing section of PHP Systems Blog. Here you’ll find my experiments and projects - ranging from custom props and signage to functional prints integrated with electronics and automation. I use a mix of FDM and resin printers, sharing every success (and occasional fail) along the way, so you can learn from my process.

Resin printer setup

I get asked from time to time what I use for 3D resin printing. While I am still getting to grips with all the ins and outs, I have had some good results.

New Printer, Who Dis?

I bought myself an older CR-10 MAX printer to do some larger prints from ebay. It came with one known fault - an issue with the BL Touch. Spending £150 on a printer with £50 P&P - what could go wrong?

Overture PLA

After a bit of a disaster with the Glow in the dark filament, I moved to a marble based filament by Overture. As I had just bought 2KG of this filament (it was cheap on Amazon) and then another 2 of matt white PLA (at about £8 per roll), I really wanted a nice easy filamant to work with.

Troubleshooting Glow-in-the-Dark (GITD) Filament: My Real-World Experience

A couple of years ago I bought a roll of glow in the dark filament from the company Amolen. As I have only 1 roll, I have no idea if my experiences are indicative of the filament in general, or just a one off.

Troubleshooting Rainbow Silk PLA: Tips & Lessons Learned

Rainbow silk PLA looks stunning but comes with quirks - stringing, tangles, and poor adhesion. Here’s what I learned while troubleshooting this filament and how to fix common issues to unlock vibrant, reliable 3D prints.

My Ender 5

I have been 3D printing since COVID. Like many others, I decided I needed a new hobby to spend my time at home on. Shame it was still tied to computers, but it was sufficiently different to distract me. The printer I chose was an Ender 5 pro.

Returning to FDM printing

This week I've returned to printing with Plastic using my Ender 5.
